Struik Nature is proud to have launched the Newman’s Birds app in October 2013. The app is based on the 2010 commemorative edition of Newman’s Birds of Southern Africa, one of the most popular birding guides in southern Africa since its initial publication in 1983.

Bird groups and families

The Newman’s app is uniquely organised into 12 major groups of families, according to habitats, feeding habits and other obvious physical features. The families are listed alphabetically, with the number of species in each family shown next to the search icon.

Filter your search by range, region, size and colour to easily identify the bird you have spotted.

You can also search on scientific and common names (English and Afrikaans).
